A True Friend, A Priceless Treasure: It's Not as Difficult as You Think

Let's talk today about friend and friendships, feeling excited?

I Always feel excited, amused, Joyed, loved and all my happy emotions comes out. Do you agree we all get excited when anything comes up about our friends and friendships, don't you?

Allow me to elaborate on why it occurred to me about writing this article. I went out today and I got to know that I and nearby to my friends place so though of meeting him if he could make it and then I called him that I am nearby if you can make it we can meet up, he and was busy with work. So, we thought next time.

I don't know if you know or not that about friends and friendship lots of things have been written in the religious book, take it any religion book you will find how important is friendship. sharing few verses from all of them.

Vedas Examples:

RV 1.4.10: Indra praised as a friend (sakhA) of the worshiper, easy of access and giver of prosperity:

“यो रायोऽवनिर्महान्त्सुपारः सुन्वतः सखा । तस्मा इन्द्राय गायत ॥”

RV 1.22.19: Vishnu is called the inseparable friend of Indra:

“विष्णोः कर्माणि पश्यत यतो व्रतानि पस्पशे । इन्द्रस्य युज्यः सखा ॥”

RV 1.26.3: Agni is praised as the best father, best relative, best friend who never holds back from doing what is in our best interest:

“आ हि ष्मा सूनवे पितापिर्यजत्यापये । सखा सख्ये वरेण्यः ॥”

Bible Examples:

John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

John 15:15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.

Proverbs 18:24 One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

Qur'an Examples:

And (remember) the day when the unjust one shall bite his hands saying: O! Would that I had taken a way with the Messenger! O woe is me! Would that I had not taken such a one for a friend! Certainly he led me astray from the reminder after it had come to me. Ah! The Evil One is but a traitor to man!.” (25:27-29)

There are a variety of things that become clear from this verses of Quran. The first thing that becomes clear is the fact that Allah Almighty acknowledges friendship as a factor that is important to the life of a person. Therefore, making friends is not something alien or out of Islam, rather friends are acknowledged as a relationship in Islam. The second thing that becomes clear from this verse is the fact that the kind of friend that one has have a great role to play in what a person gets in the life hereafter. Those who get paradise will definitely have their friends as their partners because they all contributed in the life each other and followed the path of righteousness. On the other hand, the ones who receive hell as a reward of their deeds will complain about their friends and lament upon the fact that it is following their unrighteous friends that has resulted in this plight of theirs, therefore, it is imperative that a person has righteous friends.

“Friends on the Day will be enemies one to another, except those who fear Allah's punishment (i.e. those who have piety).” (43:67)

From this verse it is clear that on the Day of Judgment there won’t be any friends, rather it would be such a situation that friends would turn into enemies. At such an instance, only those who are pious would remain friends of each other. Therefore, if one is to make friends, then he or she should make friends who are pious, because such friends don’t just remain friends in this world only, rather they remain friends in the world hereafter as well and help each other out.

I know it became too much religious, I felt it was necessary to quote a reference from all their religious book.

One day one of my office colleagues told me an important thing about friend and meeting them at least once/twice a week, wondering what's that? it's that meeting friend once/twice a week it’s essential to good health.

Let's talk more about how long term friendship works and what efforts/sacrifices are required, yes, you read it right efforts/sacrifices.

As people say every relationship requires some efforts/sacrifices to work and to last long for a longer period. Further, people also say that person is valued not based on his wealth but based on how many childhood friends he has till the time and till the person dies. so we can understand how friends and friendship are important.

#1 You always get irritated when your friends plan something and he doesn't show up right? don't you?

Yes, but you I believe you should never give that a second thought that your friend is ignoring you or not worth to be friends' with him anymore or such things and keep yourself in that position and think why would he only planed and didn't show up and you will be more than happy.

#2 We many times do one silly thing thinking that a for enjoyment but we don't understand that we are making the biggest mistake. What is that?

The silly thing here I am talking about it's talking behind the back, don't you? and I know when you are reading this question you will get second thought, No, I haven't, but believe me or not we all have done it and I my-self too done that and till date, I regret doing that. Please don't do it that even by mistake.

There are may thing about friendship but will talk more about that next time will save it for another blog.

Let's talk about my friends in summary form.

First of all, if you are reading this then obviously you are my friend. I thank God for giving so many friends. if I start to list out them all it will altogether around 500+ many of them are in contact many of them are not but still somehow I always try my best to keep in contact with all, many times I randomly picks friend from the contact list and call them. sometimes they do feel little awkward as we would haven't talked since long so but eventually, we get normal.
